The Wu Collective (Fuyuen)

The Wu Collective (Fuyuen) is an extended family with the surname Wu (anglicized Ng). Its members are the descendants of Ng Syn Hyun, all now based in Singapore. His house comes from the Mu Kong line of Pitas House — the Wu family of Nancun Shuikou in Huiyang, Guangdong, who crossed to British North Borneo in the 1920s and later moved to Kota Kinabalu (Jesselton), Sabah, Malaysia.

A family spread across countries loses its record by default: the book, the photographs and the stories go unasked-about until there is nobody left to ask. The Collective exists to keep the genealogy, and to keep the family in touch.

The name Fuyuen refers to the Taman Fu Yuen home in Kota Kinabalu, where Syn Hyun's children grew up.
